The Employee Permit is a license required for anyone involved in the sale or service of alcoholic beverages in Indiana. This includes bartenders, waiters, waitresses, and sales clerks.

1. If you are applying online for a new employee permit, you are offered the option to complete the training during the application process. Follow the link to start the Employee Permit Application process.
2. If you applied for and have received your permit by using a paper application or you currently hold an employee permit and have not yet completed the certification training, follow the link to start A+ Server Education Indiana Alcohol Server Training Online.
In Indiana, servers who are 21 years or older must complete mandatory Alcohol Server Training every three years. This training is required within 120 days of being hired to sell or serve alcohol, although some employers may require completion before employment. Servers who are 18 or 20 years old must complete the training before applying for a 3-year restricted alcohol employee permit. You’ll need to submit your original Certificate of Completion with your Restricted Permit Application. Yes. Indiana law requires anyone serving or selling alcohol to hold an Employee Permit and complete a state‑approved certified server training program within 120 days of hire.

Age 21 or older: Eligible for an Unrestricted Employee Permit after completing training. Ages 19–20: Can serve alcohol with a Restricted Permit, but must complete training before applying, and must be supervised by someone over 21.
After completing the training and passing the exam, use the Indiana ATC online portal to apply for your Employee Permit. Upon issuance, you can download or print your permit anytime.
