Under H.3430, South Carolina now requires anyone who serves, sells, or manages alcohol service to hold a valid Alcohol Server Certificate. Here is the complete process from start to finish.
Before you can receive your South Carolina Alcohol Server Training Certificate, you must complete an alcohol server training course approved by the South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR). A+ Server Education’s online course is SCDOR-approved, available 24/7, and works on any device.
The course is a minimum of 4 hours and covers South Carolina alcohol laws, ID verification, recognizing intoxication, DUI statistics, intervention techniques, and concealed carry rules for licensed establishments. You can start and stop as many times as you need — your progress is always saved.
At the end of the training, you will take a camera-monitored proctored exam directly within the course platform. The proctoring software verifies your identity and monitors your session to ensure exam integrity — there is no separate testing location or additional software to download.
A+ Server Education students maintain a 99.9% pass rate. If you don’t pass on the first attempt, you can retake the exam multiple times until you succeed.
Immediately after passing the exam, you will receive your proof of completion and certificate number. Download or screenshot this right away — you can present it to your employer as verification that you have completed the required training while the SCDOR processes your official certificate.
A+ Server Education will submit your completion information to the SCDOR within the required timeframe. You do not need to submit anything to the state yourself.
Once the SCDOR processes your completion record, your official South Carolina Alcohol Server Certificate will be available for download through the state’s MyDORWAY portal. You will need your name and certificate number to retrieve it.
Your certificate is valid for 3 years from the date of issue. To renew, you must retake an SCDOR-approved training course before your certificate expires.
